While direct lithium measurement remains limited, Beck says Vanta is particularly effective at detecting associated indicator elements such as potassium, rubidium, and caesium. Rare earth element (REE) exploration is another area where Vanta is delivering strong value, especially with recent hardware upgrades.

In another case, a base metals explorer used Vanta for in-field core logging during a Cu-Zn program. The geologists were able to identify zones of elevated copper and zinc concentrations directly on-site, which let them prioritise drilling in real time, fine-tune their exploration strategy, and avoid unnecessary metres ultimately saving time and money.

In both cases, Beck says, Vanta helped refine geological models and accelerate project momentum.

Next-gen capability for REEs

One of the most exciting developments, according to Beck, is the new Vanta Max XRF equipped with a 55 kV X-ray tube.

“This upgrade significantly enhances sensitivity for high atomic number elements,” she says. “It’s especially effective for rare earth elements like cerium, neodymium, and gadolinium which are notoriously hard to detect accurately in the field.”

The enhanced voltage generates stronger signals and improves detection limits, providing a key advantage in REE exploration, particularly at the early stages when subtle signatures can make or break a target.

“It retains all the ruggedness of the original - drop-tested, wide operating temperature, IP-rated, cloud connected, but it’s now an even more powerful tool for geochemists working on critical minerals.”
